Nothing beats this perfect breakfast match! Teck Seng Soya Bean Milk, Tiong Bahru You Tiao

These are 2 old school stalls at that were established since the 1950s - Teck Seng Soy Bean Milk and Tiong Bahru Handmade You Tiao & Hum Chim Peng.

TECK SENG SOYA BEAN MILK
Set up by his father in 1950s, Mr Loo took over the stall from his father since 1985. For the last 37 years, Mr Loo's daily routine has been nocturnal. While many of us are sound asleep, he is busy at making soya bean milk & beancurd at the stall, from 10.30pm till 4am the next morning.

From the soaking of beans, to grinding to cooking and washing, he does the chores all alone. Following the traditional method his father cooked, Mr Loo slow cooks the milk in a big cast-iron wok. It is laborious work as after each batch is cooked, he has to scrub and rinse the wok to prevent the next batch of milk from being burnt. Along the way, he doesn't take a break but continuously works through the night.

Freshly cooked from the wok, it is no wonder that Mr Loo is well known for his soya milk. Nothing beats his artisanal beancurd. It's so silky and smooth that it seemingly melts in the mouth.

TIONG BAHRU HANDMADE YOU TIAO & HUM CHIM PENG
Set up by her father-in-law who began the business in 1950s, Mdm Ng now helms the stall with her daughter and son-in-law. Their specialties are butterfly fritters, You Tiao and Hum Chim Peng, all of which are handmade from scratch at the stall daily.

Fried on the spot, the crispy fritters are fresh and hot. Dip a You Tiao into a cup of cold soya bean milk, and send it right into your mouth. Such a perfect match for breakfast!
