Morkulambhu/ Buttermilk gravy | Gayathiri's Cookbook

Morkulambhu or Buttermilk gravy is a south Indian style gravy which is prepared with sour buttermilk, coconut,green chillies and jeera. This is a traditional brahmin style recipe. It is very easy to prepare and tastes great with hot steamed rice and potato fry, stuffed brinjal(ennaikathirikai) curry, Arbi( seppankilanghu) fry etc..

Ingredients:
Buttermilk/Moor- 2 cups
Turmeric powder- 1/2 tsp
Salt-3/4 tsp
Hing- A pinch
curry leaves- 5-10
Oil- 2 tsp
Mustard seeds- 1/2 tsp
Red chillies- 2
Okra- 10
Coconut- 1/2 cup
Jeera- 1 tsp
Green chillies- 5


Morkulambhu Recipe:

1. Heat 2 tsp oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds. When it starts to crackle, add 2 red chillies and cut okra. Saute with 1/4 tsp turmeric powder and 1/4 tsp salt.When the vegetables are cooked, switch off the heat.
2. Grind 1/2 cup Shredded Coconut,1 tsp Jeera and 5 Green chillies into a fine paste adding little water.
3. Beat 2 cups of buttermilk. Add 3/4 tsp salt, a pinch of hing, ground coconut paste, and sauteed okra and curry leaves to the buttermilk. Mix it well.
4. Keep it on the stove on medium flame. When the froth starts to form on the sides.switch off the heat.

Morkulambhu is ready!!!
