Fried Tofu with Spicy Mayo The Buddhist Chef

Fried Tofu with Spicy Mayo

8 oz. firm tofu, diced (250 g)
1/2 teaspoon salt (2.5 mL)
1 teaspoon baking soda (5 mL)
1/2 teaspoon onion powder (2.5 mL)
1/2 cup all-purpose flour (65 g)
1 teaspoon white vinegar (5 mL)
1/2 cup vegetable milk (125 mL)
Oil for frying

Spicy mayonnaise:
3 tablespoons vegan mayonnaise (45 mL)
1 teaspoon Sriracha sauce (5 mL)
1 teaspoon maple syrup (5 mL)

Preparation:
Fried Tofu
1. Preheat fryer oil to 160C (325F).
2. In a bowl, combine salt, baking soda, onion powder, flour, vinegar, and vegetable milk.
3. Season tofu with salt. Add tofu to batter and mix well to coat.
4. Place tofu pieces in hot oil and fry for 2 to 3 minutes, until golden brown, making sure to turn tofu when half cooked.

Spicy mayonnaise
5. Mix all mayonnaise ingredients until smooth and serve with deep-fried tofu
