Cabbage Kootu | Gayathiri's Cookbook

Kootu is a southindian dish that combines lentils and vegetables.This cabbage kootu is a healthy and delicious gravy which can be paired with rice or roti.

Ingredients:
Cabbage- 1 small
Toordal- 1/2 cup
Channadal- 1/4 cup
Turmeric powder- 1/4 tsp
Salt- 3/4 tsp
Curryleaves- 1sprig
Hing- A pinch
Shredded coconut- 1/2 cup
Jeera- 1 tsp
Green chillies- 3
Red chillies- 1
Mustard seeds- 1/4 tsp
Directions:
1. Pressure cook 1/2 cup toordal for upto 4 whistles.Keep it ready.
2.Take cabbage, Channadal and 1/2 cup water in a vessel.Add turmeric powder, salt, hing and curry leaves .
3. Cover the lid and cook until the vegetables are soft.
4. Grind coconut, jeera and green chillies into a fine paste.When the cabbage is cooked, add this paste. Let it boil for couple of minutes.
5. Finally add the mashed dal and cook for another 2-3 minutes.Then switch off the heat.
For seasoning: Heat 1 tap of oil. Add mustard seeds and 1 red chilly. When the mustard seeds starts to crackle, add the seasoning to the gravy.

Kootu is ready!!
