The old Satay Club, demolished in 1995 to make way for the Esplanade, was reputed to serve the best satay by hawkers. Leng Kee, set up by founder Mr Wan Lin Kee, was one of those stalls at the Club, and has been serving old-school satay for the last 52 years. Now helmed by the 2nd generation, his son has inherited the legacy and continued the old-school way of cooking. The satay sauce is well-flavoured with peanuts and enhanced by pineapple puree. Fried Oyster is another local favourite on the menu.How could one leave the stall without tasting the BBQ chicken wings? They are grilled golden brown to perfection, with slightly charred edges. Take a mighty bite of the juicy marinated meat!It's hard to imagine the hawkers bearing the intense heat of the charcoal furnace, and with their masks on.
