Tiffin Sambar/Mini Idly Sambar | Gayathiri's Cookbook

This is a restaurant style South Indian tiffin sambar. This tasty and delicious tiffin sambar is served with mini idlies, idly, dosa, pongal and Uradvada.

Ingredients:
Onion-2
Tomatoes- 4
Green chillies- 3
Fennel seeds- 1 tsp
Curry leaves- 2 stems
Turmeric powder- 1/2 tsp
Salt-As needed
Hing- As needed
Sambar powder- 2.5 tsp
Toordal- 1/2 cup
Gramflour- 2 tsp
Oil- 3 tsp
Ghee- 2 tsp
Coriander leaves- for garnishing

Directions:
1.Pressure cook 1/2 cup toordal for upto 4 whistles. keep it aside.
2.Heat 2 tsp oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds. When it starts to crackle, add fennel seeds,curryleaves, green chillies and onion.
2. Saute onion until translucent.
3. Add tomatoes and cook until tomatoes are soft.
4.Then add turmeric powder, salt, hing and sambar powder and 1 cup water.
5. Let it boil until the raw smell of the sambar powder goes away.
6.Mix 1 cup of water with the mashed toordal and add it to the sambar.Adjust the sambar consistency.
7.let it boil for 2 minutes.
8. Mix 2 tsp of gram flour in 1/4 cup water and add it to the sambar.
Let it boil for another 2 minutes.
Switch off the heat. Garnish with coriander leaves.

Tiffin sambar is ready!!
