Shiratama Cream Anmitsu (白玉クリームあんみつ) | Graces Japanese Cooking

If you’ve been to Japan during the summer time you’ve probably had Anmitsu, a traditional summertime dessert served with kanten (agar) jelly, sweet red bean (azuki) paste, fruits, drizzled with a sweet syrup called kuromitsu. Popular add ons are shiratama dango (mochi) and ice cream, traditionally vanilla or matcha flavor.

The next time you’re visiting Japan, I highly recommend searching for a traditional anmitsu cafe where every aspect of the sweet dessert is traditionally made by a chef that has been trained by their masters. It’s quite a treat:)

Today I made Shiratama(mochi) Cream(ice cream) Anmitsu using milk kanten. I didn’t add the kuromitsu as the recipe seems to satisfy my sweet tooth, but kuromitsu does have a distinctive flavor that most people enjoy (that would be my mom) drizzled on top. If you like to purchase one you can easily find a pre-made bottle at any Japanese grocery store. Hope you enjoy the recipe! HAPPY SUMMER:)

*this is a great recipe to enjoy with your little ones. Aaand they will love it!
