Prasava Lehiyam/Legiyam/Post Natal care:

What can be better than Grandma’s knowledge, when it comes to taking care of family!!

Me and my siblings grew up with my grandma’s guidance and her home medicines. She taught us so many homemade medicines to take care of seasonal sickness. I am glad that she passed on her knowledge and wisdom to us.
I personally had this medicine and wanted to pass on to anyone interested. This will help in Post partum digestion, healing of internal wounds and in regaining health quickly.

In my grandma days, this lehiyam was prepared with more than 45 herbal products. Nowadays, it’s not easy to get all those herbs .

I have prepared this lehiyam with the 9 main ingredients which are available in US.

Post delivery moms are advised to take 1 small gooseberry size ball of this mixture everyday in empty stomach, for 45 days.

Ingredients:

Sitharathai ( Gangala)- 50 grams
Sukku ( Dry ginger)- 50 grams
Arisi thippili- 25 grams
Kanda thippili- 25 grams
Coriander seeds- 50 grams
Black pepper- 20 grams
Omam(Ajwain)-20 grams
Cloves-20 grams
Cardamom- 10
Nattusakkarai (Pure brown sugar)- equal quantity as the ground powder.

Sesame oil or ghee- As needed
Honey- As needed


Directions:
1. Dry roast all the ingredients over medium flame. ( Sitharathai, Sukku, Arisi thippili, Kanda thippili,Coriander seeds, black pepper, Omam and cloves).
2. Grind these ingredients along with cardamom into a fine powder. Sieve the powder couple of times.
3. Then add Pure brown sugar or powdered jaggery and grind everything into a fine powder.
4. Keep this in an airtight container. Mix this powder with sesame oil or ghee and honey .
5. Make a gooseberry size ball out of this mixture.

Post delivery moms can take this in an empty stomach for 45 days. It will help them regain their strength quickly after the delivery.
