Kumquat Preserves-Glyko Koutaliou Kumquat is an absolutely delicious spoon sweet! A great autumn sweet when fresh Kumquats are in season. Kumquat is a small exotic citrus fruit, in Greece growing mainly in Corfu island. In contrast to other citrus fruits, its peel is sweet while its flesh is quite tart and bitter; so most people don't prefer to eat it raw.
That's why usually Kumquats are made into sweets and alcoholic drinks with plenty of sugar! This recipe is one of many varieties of Preserves or “Spoon Sweets” I have posted. Spoon Sweets are prepared all over Greece, depending on the fruit in season.
In Greece we call “Spoon Sweet-Glyko Koutaliou” a small sweet treat. The idea is to always have a treat for a sudden guest or when you are yearning for something sweet but not too much
