KOREAN AIRBNB TOUR with pool table (Busan Day 9)

You might be wondering: what do Airbnbs in South Korea look like? Some options include staying at a guesthouse, sleeping in a hanok, booking a room and sharing the rest of the house with a native Korean family.

In Seoul and Busan, many Airbnb listings are hosted in studio-sized units located in tall multi-purpose buildings with a convenience store and other businesses. Some of these units will feel modern and clean, while others are old and casual. Ours happened to have a pool table and all kinds of games. Not a typical Airbnb setup from my experience.

The main reason I choose an Airbnb over a hotel is to have a kitchen. I like my morning veggies, plain and simple. However I prefer the check-in process at hotels. Korean Airbnbs I've stayed had fairly easy check-ins (ie: give you digital code for door), but in some other countries, I've had experiences where the host gives an extensive list of instructions to obtain a physical key (ie: open lock for box located on a bike, get key for mailbox, then get house key from mailbox & don't talk to anyone, especially the security guard). After a long flight and especially if you arrive at night, the last thing you want is a complicated check-in process.

Some Airbnbs in South Korea are registered and operate legally. In cases where the Airbnb listing is not registered, you may encounter uncomfortable situations where the security guard asks you details and the host will ask you to give specific answers. It would be convenient to know which Airbnb listing is registered when booking, but it's often hard to distinguish which are operating legally just from reading the listing's description. Some buildings have relaxed security while others will be strict and try to catch unregistered Airbnb units.
