Cooking with Kyler; Creating Long Lasting Memories Together

I can remember certain smells coming from the kitchen as a kid. Freshly baked cheese biscuits, sauteed shallots and beef stew from my Godmother, Hilly's house will eternally be tatooed in my memory vault.

My Dad loved making collossal size portions of what he called "Japanese summer salad". 2 Ibs of cooked spaghetti (2 Ibs!!!) served cold with scallions, garlic, shrimp, mushrooms all bathed in a tahini/peanut butter, sesame oil and soy dressing. The raw garlic perfumed the air with a pungent whack.

My Mom would traditionaly make brandade for x-mas eve (still does) and she still makes a mean vichyssoise. Our kitchen was often redolent with delicious homemade smells. These aromas acted as road maps which now transport me back to a certain memory, often celebrated with family.

I recently asked my wife, Kristen, her favorite dishes as a kid and without hesitation, she identified her fondest memory of what her Mom and Dad both made. Kristen is an excellent cook because she was brought up with home cooked meals.

This "passport to the senses" philosophy was something we both wanted for Kyler and while I was a stay at home Dad, I harnessed what I knew. Cooking, filmmaking and fatherhood.

Looking back at our videos, It's amazing to see how quickly time has swooped by. The amount of hours it took to edit each one. So many, but the reward is beyond words. The documentation of memories has been a labor of love that we will forever cherish and we hope they are inspiration to anyone who watches them.

Kyler and I have been on quite the hiatus, but we intend on making more cooking videos soon. Perhaps our videos will inspire you to try what we've made, or create something on your own. Or maybe it'll encourage you to cook with your kids, your parents, your siblings, neighbor or best friend. Create lasting memories using food as the nucleous.

We don't have anything to sell, but we can act as a conduit to inspire.
Take one day out of the week and decide on making something homemade with someone you really care about. Good, homemade food will, without a doubt, bookmark a special occasion.

Be inspired, get creative...
