Char Siu Pork Recipe Easy at Home () Chinese Pork BBQ Thai Girl in the Kitchen

Char Siu () is a Chinese BBQ marinade that is very popular, especially in Asia.
Today let's see how to make it easily at home.

In Thailand, Char Siu pork is known as "Moo Dang" which translate to "red pork" in Thai.
We can find Moo Dang (Char Siu pork) literally on every corner in Thailand, as it's one of the most popular street foods and can turn into so many other menus such as topping on the rice with gravy, on noodle soup, stuffed in a bun, etc.

It might take a day or two to marinade and cook.
So that's why knowing what other menu we can use Char Siu pork as one of the elements will be a good thing so it's worth all the time you spend on it.

I will for sure be sharing more menus with Char Siu pork after.

But today, let's start with making our juicy red pork :)

Recipe: Char Siu Pork Recipe Easy at Home () | Thai Girl in the Kitchen

- 1kg Pork (Shoulder/Butt/Loin/Belly/etc. recommend parts with some fat)
- 4 tbsp Brown Sugar
- 1 tsp Salt
- 1 tsp Five Spices Powder
- 1 tbsp Minced Garlic
- 1 tbsp Shaoxing Wine (Chinese Cooking Wine)
- 1 tbsp Hoisin Sauce
- 2 tbsp Oyster Sauce
- 2 tbsp Light Soy Sauce
- 2 tbsp Red Wine [Optional]

Glazing;
- 2 tbsp Honey
- 2 tbsp Water
- And a brush

*For RED color, most Char Siu pork from restaurants will have very red/bright red color from food coloring.
So if youre happy with your Char Siu not as red then the ingredients above are enough.

However, there are alternative ingredients you can put to create red color.
- Red Fermented Bean Curd (1 tsp)
- Beetroot Powder (1 tsp)
- Red Yeast Rice (1 tsp)
- Or just a couple drips of food coloring

*These options above dont affect the tastes, solely for red color*

BONUS :) Salty&Sour dipping sauce to cut the sweet taste

When having Khao Moo Dang (Char Siu Pork top with rice) in Thailand, this dipping is being served. Ideally to help cutting the sweet taste. Because when we put gravy on the rice, it can be overwhelming with the sweetness.

- 1 tbsp Sugar
- 2 tbsp White Vinegar
- 2 tbsp Light Soy Sauce
- 1 tbsp Thick Soy Sauce
- 1 tbsp Water
- Chili as you like

Hope you enjoy!
