Brewing Green Tea | Graces Japanese Cooking

The ritual of drinking green tea is an important part of the Japanese lifestyle. We drink tea to bring us back to a place of love, calm and gratitude. In Japan, guests are welcomed into the home with ocha, or tea, as a symbol of appreciation for taking the time to visit their home.

When a perfect cup of green tea is sipped, we take a deep breathe in and out to let ourselves know, everything is going to be okay. Brewing tea is certainly not difficult, but takes patience. The temperature of the water, the quality of the tea, the mental state can all affect the flavor of the tea. A perfect cup of tea is well rounded with the perfect amount of sweetness and umaminess hitting the palate and calming the mind. Sooo relaxing.

Green tea is known for the antioxidant Catechin which is known for its powerful anti-carcinogen properties to fight cancer cells, help strengthen the immune system, lower high blood pressure and balance blood sugar levels.

It is also a good source of vitamin C which helps to relax the nervous system and calm the mind. A great way to disconnect from the everyday stress, and bring yourself to a place of self-love and stillness.
