Why Overweight People Should Cut Their Calories Without Fear

Weight loss gurus sometimes tell people they should never restrict their calories and diet because it will slow their metabolism and they'll end up gaining weight in the end.

But is this the truth? In this video, I talk about the science behind this idea, and whether or not it's valid.

Background:

The raw till four program and various raw food gurus will often say you can literally eat unlimited quantities of low fat plant foods without fear of weight gain. They actually encourage you to eat more calories than you might normally consume if you left your consumption up to hunger.

Of course, people often get fat eating the big portions of rice, bread, dates, and other high-calorie plant foods they suggest - excess calories lead to fat gains, no matter the source.

The gurus response is that this weight gain is temporary, and eventually it will disappear after the person's metabolism revs us. Generally, this doesn't happen, however.

In this video I answer a question from Mary, who has seen her weight balloon after starting the raw till four program promoted by Harley (Durianrider) and Freelea, on which she's consuming 2,700 calories per day.

She's afraid to restrict her calories, and thinks it will slow her metabolic rate so she'll never lose the weight.

I address her fears, and tell her what she should do.

I discuss the world's greatest metabolic ward experiment, biosphere 2, and what happened to its participants when they had their calories restricted for two years.
