Whisky Skin OR Whisky Toddy? Not Really A Cocktail - Cocktail... Cocktails After Dark

Whisky Skin OR Whisky Toddy? Not Really A Cocktail - Cocktail... Cocktails After Dark
It's a fine line of semantics between a Whisky Skin and Whisky Toddy (or whiskey skin and whiskey toddy if you're that person) - today we are going to make two versions from the 1887 printing of Jerry Thomas' Bar-Tender's Guide, one with Scotch Whisky and one with Irish Whiskey.
Scotch Whiskey Skin.
(Use small bar-glass.)
Take 1 lump of white sugar.
1 small wine-glass of Glenlivet, or Islay whiskey.
1 small piece of lemon-rind
First rinse the glass with hot water, put in the sugar,
fill the glass half-full of boiling water, add the whiskey
and stir. Serve with a spoon.

Irish Whiskey Skin.
(Use small bar-glass.)
Take 1 lump of white sugar.
1 small wine-glass of Irish whiskey.
1 small piece of lemon-peel.
Proceed as directed for Scotch Whiskey Skin.
