Which Is Best??? 1899 Saratoga Potatoes Vs Potato Chips Recipe - Old Cookbook Show - Glen & Friends | Glen And Friends Cooking

1899 Saratoga Potatoes Vs Potato Chips Recipe These two recipes (if you can actually call them that) are from the 1899 Dominion Cook Book. The Saratoga Potatoes recipe (the original potato chip recipe) is a fairly 'new' idea to a lot of people at this point in history. The origin story is a myth, pure fiction, but we do know that commercially sold potato chips didn't start appearing in the marketplace until the late 1890s.

welcome friends welcome back to the kitchen and Sunday morning in the old cook book show today we're going to do something out of the Dominion cookbook now this was published in 1899 in Canada the Dominion of Canada as we were then known and it is a very interesting book sent to us by one of our viewers I thank you very much for this book I find it fascinating because in 1899 you can see that it was generally in the way that it's written and the way that the recipes are done in a much earlier time period than what we've been doing from say 1915 on to World War 2 the recipes are different the ingredients are much different and the way it's written in the language that's used is completely different again and the recipes are set out in a way that they are paragraphs a lot of them don't have a list of ingredients it just goes right into it and it tells you what you need to do as you need as you need to do it so there are two recipes that I want to do today that are incredibly similar to each other they're found on opposite pages one of them is Saratoga potatoes and one of them is potato chips
