Tomato Saar Maharashtrian Food #YumUtsav Sanjeev Kapoor Khazana

Garma garam tomato saar from the Maharashtrian cuisine, tastes beyond words. Have it as it is or along with some rice, it is sure to satisfy your taste buds!

TOMATO SAAR

Ingredients

4 tomatoes
2 tbsps scraped fresh coconut
Salt to taste
tsp sugar
tsp crushed black peppercorns
1 tbsp ghee
1 tsp cumin seeds
2-3 green chillies, broken
1 tbsp chopped fresh coriander leaves

Method

1. Trim the eye of the tomatoes and quarter them. Transfer into a pressure cooker, add cup water, cover and pressure cook for 3-4 whistles.
2. Open the cooker once the pressure has reduced completely. Transfer into a blender jar, add coconut and blend to a fine puree.
3. Strain the blended puree in a large bowl, add 1 cup water and mix. Add salt, sugar and crushed black peppercorns, mix and set aside.
4. Heat ghee in a deep pan, add cumin seeds and let them change colour. Add green chillies and saut for a few seconds. Add the strained tomato mixture, mix and cook till it comes to a boil.
5. Add coriander leaves, switch the heat off, cover and transfer into a serving bowl. Serve hot.
