Teaching Kids to Cook May Help Prevent Anxiety and Depression

My friend recently told me about how her son, who had struggled with debilitating anxiety, was doing starting a new school year.

With awe in her voice, she reported that his anxiety has simply disappeared, that he said one day, "Mom, I really feel fine. It's just gone."

I had to ask: "Did you make any dietary changes recently?"

"You know Katie," she said, realization dawning on her face, "about a year ago we really committed to eating more foods that we grew ourselves and shopping the perimeter of the grocery store..."

Our eyebrows both raised as we sat with that information.

There's no doubt that food impacts mood, but can it even help soothe or prevent anxiety and depression? This news clip from Fox 2 Detroit goes into:

* the best fats to eat for brain health
* why zinc and magnesium may be major factors in depression & anxiety
* the top zinc-containing food that's easy to find (and delicious to eat)
* a really fun way to get more magnesium in your diet
* how connection and competence are almost "depression insurance" AND the key to building it in your own home

But how to get these foods into our diet?? (other than a square of dark chocolate today, something I don't hear a lot of complaints or questions about!)

Grab the printable for the background on the best 10 foods to eat for depression and anxiety, PLUS the most important part of HOW to use them practically in your kitchen. https://kidscookrealfood.com/depression
