"Lion's Head" Meatballs (红烧狮子头) | The Chinese Cuisine

These braised pork meatballs are tender, flavorful, and easy to cook!

INGREDIENTS (3 egg-sized meatballs):
- 240g (8.5 oz.) ground pork
- 80g baby bok choy
- 1 stalk green onion
- 2 shiitake mushrooms
- 6 thin slices of ginger
- 55 mL light soy sauce
- 5 mL dark soy sauce
- 6g sugar
- 10g corn starch

DIRECTIONS:
1. prep your ingredients by chopping the green onions and slicing the ginger. soak your mushrooms in water if they are dried. add a little bit of water into the cornstarch and mix well.
2. form the ground pork into 3 balls.
3. add cooking oil into a heated pan on low-medium heat
4. coat the meatballs evenly in the corn starch mixture
5. pan fry the meatballs until the outside is browned
6. during this process, add in ginger slices, green onions, sugar, and shiitake mushrooms
7. add in hot water
8. transfer to another pot to begin the braising process if needed
9. the meatballs should be almost submerged in the water
10. add in soy sauce and put the lid on
11. when the water is boiling, turn down the heat to low, and let it simmer for 1 hour
12. after one hour, add in the bok choy
13. serve and enjoy!
