Welcome to Kyrgyzstan, a Central Asian country known for its incredible natural beauty. Many travel to Kyrgyzstan to trek the remote mountains, visit the high altitude lakes, and other thrill-seeking, outdoor activities. But we’re here to show a different side of Kyrgyzstan, one that is lesser known. We’re here to highlight the unique culture, history and cuisine of the Kyrgyz people.

In this episode, join us as we make our way to Enilchek, a once thriving Soviet era mining town, now turned ghost town. This place is home to only 30 families today, some of them being nomadic Kyrgyz people. In the summer months, the nomadic people of Kyrgyzstan live and move through the mountainous pastures with their livestock. This means that what they eat needs to reflect this lifestyle.

We are meeting Neli, a Kyrgyz woman who is an amazing cook. She is showing us two different dishes created by the nomads. The first one is Kara-Kuurdak, which is a meat and potato dish. The second dish is Beshbarmak (the national dish of Kyrgyzstan), which is a handmade noodle and meat dish. For both dishes, Neli used yak meat which is common in Enilchek.

We are also showing you all of the amazing things you can see and do while you’re in Enilchek including exploring the abandoned Soviet era buildings and town, as well as the town’s natural hot spring, which was a major highlight for us.

Thanks so much for watching, and let us know in the comments which dish you thought looked more delicious! Stay tuned and subscribe because we more unique videos coming from Kyrgyzstan very soon! Thanks so much to our partners at Visit Karakol for making this series possible!
