A Konkani special snack where raw banana slices are marinated in a masaledar spice mix and shallow-fried to crispy perfection.
KELE PHODI

Ingredients

2 raw bananas (kachha kele)
1½ tbsps ginger-garlic paste
1 tsp red chilli powder
¼ tsp turmeric powder
Salt to taste
½ lemon
1½ tbsps chopped fresh coriander leaves
⅓ cup semolina (rawa)
½ cup rice flour
Oil for shallow frying

Method

1. Peel the raw bananas, cut them in half and thickly slice each half.
2. Take ginger-garlic paste in a bowl. Add red chilli powder, turmeric powder, salt and squeeze the juice of lemon into it. Add coriander leaves and mix well.
3. Add the raw banana slices into the masala and rub till the slices are well coated.
4. Take semolina and rice flour on a large plate. Place these slices in this mixture and coat well.
5. Heat sufficient oil in a non-stick tawa. Place the raw banana slices and shallow fry on both sides till golden brown and crisp. Drain on an absorbent paper.
6. Serve hot.
