Is Fasting Good for You? BBC Morning Live - UK Dietitian Nichola Ludlam-Raine

It was a pleasure to speak to @brionymaewilliams on @bbcmorninglive recently on FASTING and here is a little clip!

Here are a few takeaways -

1 SOME people like to fast for 16 hours a day (and eat during the remaining 8), however this pattern of eating DOESNT suit everyone and should be avoid in some circumstances (as discussed in the clip).

2 Fasting is a form of RESTRICTION and any weight loss is down to the reduction in calorie intake, rather than the magical fast itself.

3 It is a good idea to allow your gut to rest, ideally overnight, but it doesnt have to be for 16 hours, it could be for 12 hours e.g. 7pm to 7pm.

4 WHAT you eat matters way more than WHEN you eat, and if for example, youre late home from work and feel hungry, I dont advise skipping it simply because you are trying to fast - or equally if you wake up hungry in the morning, I dont recommend ignoring this and not eating.

5 Regular meals suits the majority of us, as it helps to fuel an active lifestyle and provides opportunities to get in the macro and micronutrients that we need for the day. Eat more plants, eat fewer ultra-processed foods, stay active and sleep well .. and youll be well on your way!!

Promise you healthy living isnt complex, its about healthy swaps and consistency.

What do you think to fasting?
