Ingredients

1½ cups (200 grams) split skinless pigeon peas (toor dal), soaked for 30 minutes and drained
Salt to taste
¼ teaspoon turmeric powder
1 tablespoon ghee
4 garlic cloves
1-2 green chilli, finely chopped
1 teaspoon cumin seeds

Method

1. Take dal in a pressure cooker and place on heat. Add 3-4 cups water, salt and turmeric powder, cover and cook on high heat for 10-15 minutes. Reduce heat and cook for 10 minutes.
2. Thinly slice garlic cloves.
3. Heat ghee in a non-stick pan. Add sliced garlic, green chillies and cumin seeds and sauté till garlic turns golden brown.
4. Add three-fourth of the tempering to cooked dal, mix well and bring to boil.
5. Serve hot garnished with remaining tempering.
