Daal Palak Recipe
Ingredients for Daal Palak:
Water (for soaking) as required
Split Chickpeas (chanay ki daal) 2 cups
Salt 1/2 tsp
Water (for boiling) as required
Soaked split chickpeas (daal) 2 cups
Oil (for cooking) 3 tbsp
Ginger garlic paste 1 tbsp
Cumin seeds 1 tbsp
Onion (chopped) 1 cup
Tomatoes (chopped) 1 cup
Salt to taste
Red chili powder 1 tbsp
Turmeric powder 1 tbsp
Black pepper powder 1 tbsp
Boiled split chickpeas (daal)
Water (for cooking) as required
Palak (chopped) 1 cup
Garam masala powder 1/4 tsp
Coriander powder 1 tsp
Green chilies (round cut) 3-4

Ingredients for Tarka:
Oil 2 tbsp
Cumin seeds 1 tsp
Red chili powder 1/4 tsp
Red whole chilies 5-6
Bay leaf 1
Garlic (round cut) 5-6

Directions for Daal Palak:
In a bowl, add daal and water, soak for 2 hours.
Now in a pot, add water, add soaked daal and salt, cook until 80% done on medium low flame for about 20-25 minutes. Then strain and keep it aside.
Now in another pot, add oil, cumin seeds and cook for 1 minute. Now add ginger garlic paste and cook for another 1 minute. Now add chopped onion and cook until translucent.
Add tomatoes, salt, red chili powder, turmeric powder, black pepper powder and mix well. Add 1/2 cup water and cook until your oil separates and masala is done.
Now add boiled daal, coriander powder and 2 cups water, cook until your daal is done properly. Now add green chilies, chopped palak, garam masala, 1/4 cup water. Cover and cook for about 18-20 minutes or until your daal and Palak are fully cooked.
Directions for Tarka:
In a pan, heat oil and add garlic, fry until light golden in color, now add cumin seeds, whole chilies, chili powder, bay leaf and nicely fry on high flame. Now drizzle on your daal and serve hot.
Preparation time: 10-15 mins
Cooking time: 35-40 mins
