Buying and Cooking Japanese Kobe Beef! | Japanese Eats

Underneath the Isetan department store can Shinjuku, there is an expansive underground food hall (the “depachika” – literally underneath the department store).

Japan’s underground markets are full of fun places to pick up a quick snack or lunch. It's also a place where you can find the most exquisite and expensive grocery items, like Wagyu/Kobe Beef, which can sell in excess of @$1000 USD per pound! The sushi selection is incredible and extremely fresh, and you can typically get great deals as the evening winds down. You will also find amazing fruits, like mangos, strawberries, kiwis, and grapes, that will just BLOW YOUR MIND when you bite into them. If you're willing, be ready for your wallet to take a hit. A small box of grapes will set you back $15 USD.
