This 1939 Health Biscuits Recipe - isn't 'healthy' in the way we might think of healthy today. It's more of an energy cookie; packed with sugar and fat it'll get you over that mid afternoon hump when you're out in the field bailing hay. Or before you head to the barn for the 4:30am milking. Probably not great for snacking on the couch; but they sure are tasty and that's we did.Ingredients:1 egg½ cup butter½ cup shortening1 cup brown sugar1 tsp soda¾ cup chopped dates¾ cup chopped walnuts¾ cup raisins2 cups rolled oats2 cups whole wheat flour¼ tsp salt(enough sour milk to hold together)Method:Mix ingredients with enough sour milk to hold together and drop on buttered pan.***The recipe is written above in the way I found it in the recipe book. - I used kefir, but buttermilk is what they mean in the recipe by sour milk.
