Why is someone like ME packing Little Kosher Lunches anyway?! We don't keep kosher at home but since I started sending my oldest to her Jewish nursery school, I've been working hard to adapt my cooking and lunch packing so that all of her lunches are nut free and kosher style, per the food safety guidelines of the school. While this is challenging, I also appreciate that this request helps me teach my children about respect for others, and at their very young ages they are quite sensitive to ensuring all food allergic friends are safe, and they are aware of being respectful of Jewish law when we are on a jewish school campus (just like peanut allergies, we have friends who simply never eat traif, and it's important to be respectful of that).In my mind, my blog and this channel was a way of filling the gap that I saw in the mommy blogs out there that showed beautiful recipes and meals for children that I just couldn't send to my daughter's school. I needed ideas myself and realized that other mothers needed ideas too. There are many families in my community who are either intermarried or may be sending their children to a Jewish school but are not jewish. The traditions and rules aren't a no-brainer for everyone.In the coming months I'll be focusing on more content that is dedicated to the following categories: parve lunchbox foods, dairy lunches (I know many schools are dairy only, and this is helpful for the vegetarians too!), and kosher style meat lunches.What else can I help you with?
