MY TWO CENTS!!! It is not the vegan diet. It's MODERN LIFE that is the cause of low B12 in our diets. I do not believe that the vegan diet is bad simply because of B12 - when we used to get it fine in the wild.

These bacteria grow in the guts of animals, which is why their bodies and products can be a source of this vitamin. Our herbivore primate cousins get all they need ingesting bugs, dirt, and feces, and we may once have gotten all we needed by drinking out of mountain streams or well water. But now we chlorinate our water supply to kill off any bugs. So we dont get a lot of B12 in our water anymore, but we dont get a lot of cholera eitherthats a good thing!" ~ Dr. Greger

GET TESTED and learn about B12 and do what is best for your body! YES - I take B12 (methycobalamin sublingual) and Vitamin D3. I am not opposed to supplementation. I know some are, but if you are getting it from soil, mountain springs, etc then that's great. Just make sure you are tested.
