If you're looking through dairy free milk recipes you should know this oat milk recipe only cost me about 39 cents per quart. Thats way cheaper than store bought brands like planet oat milk, pacific oat milk or quaker oat milk. When comparing oat milk vs almond milk, the cost is much less for 1 cup of dried oats required to make a quart compared to what you need for a quart of almond milk. Keep in mind that the oat milk nutrition profile is different from regular milk no calcium, lower protein, etc. Some people ask "how can you make oat milk recipe not slimy?" This video will show you how. Many people also ask "is oat milk gluten free?". While oats are a gluten free grain, they could be cross contaminated with wheat if theyre processed in a facility that also processes other grains. So if you have celiac or a gluten sensitivity, you may want to ensure youre getting a certified gluten free oat. Original recipe from cleananddelicious.com: https://cleananddelicious.com/how-to-make-oat-milk-easy-delicious/
- Chill 4 cups filtered water in the fridge until its as cold as possible. This is important to make sure that when the blender starts to heat things up the oats dont start to cook/break down. This will make the final texture slimier.
- Use regular oats only, NOT quick cooking oats and not NOT steel cut. The two latter kinds will make the final texture slimier.
- Put 1 cup oats into the blender and add the 4 cups cold water
- Blend on high for NO MORE than 20 seconds. More and the oats will start to break down/cook.
- Put a nut milk bag over a large bowl, pour the blended contents through the bag.
- Lift the bag up and apply GENTLE pressure to release the liquid. Youre not wringing out a dishtowel here! Be patient! Set oat pulp in bag aside.
- Ensure blender is clean of debris. If not, rinse it.
- Return the strained liquid to the blender. Add pinch of salt and optionally, add 1 teaspoon vanilla extract and 2-3 teaspoons real maple syrup.
- Blend again for NO MORE than 10 seconds.
Thats it! Youre done! Pour it in a container and store in the fridge for up to a week. Youll see it separate after a while, just give it a shake before you pour again. Best for cold uses drinking, smoothie addition, cereal addition, etc. Not so great for heated uses lattes, coffee, baking, etc.
