Thiruvathirai Kali:

Ingredients:

Raw Rice - 1 cup

Bengal Gram Dal - 1 tbsp

Mung Dal - 1 tbsp

Grated coconut - ½ cup

Jaggery - 1 cup

Water - 3 cups

Ghee - 3 tsp

Cardamom - 4

Cashews - as required

Method:

Grate jaggery and keep aside

Dry roast rice, dals and cardamom to a light pink colour

Grind the roasted ingredients to a coarse powder and keep aside

Boil 3 cups of water in a big pan

To the boiling water add the ground powder and keep stirring to avoid lumps to form a dough like consistency

Now add most of the grated coconut and mix well together

Now add the grated jaggery and mix together

Add the Ghee 

Close with a lid and cook for a few mins over simmer flame

Meanwhile heat some ghee and fry cashews in it

Add the fried cashews to the Thiruvathirai Kali

7 Curry Kootu

Ingredients:

7 vegetables of choice - white pumpkin, sweet potato a must

Tur Dal - ½ cup

Turmeric powder - ¼ tsp

Tamarind paste - 1 tsp

 Coriander seeds - 2 tsps

Bengal Gram Dal - 2 tsps

Red chillies - 5

Grated coconut - 1 cup

Mustard seeds - 1 tsp

Methi seeds - ½ tsp

Curry leaves - as required

Asaefotida - ½ tsp

Ghee - few tsps

Salt to taste

Method:

Chop vegetables roughly - steam and keep aside

Boil Tur Dal with turmeric powder and keep aside

Dry roast the coriander seeds, Bengal Gram Dal and red chillies

Add the grated coconut too at the end and lightly stir fry the coconut too

Grind to a paste adding some water and keep the paste aside

Now take a big pan and add the boiled Tur Dal to it

Now add the steamed vegetables and salt

Now add the ground paste and cook together

Add 1 tsp of tamarind paste and mix together we'll

Adjust the consistency by adding some water

Add asaefotida and cook together

Switch off the flame

Now heat ghee in a small pan

Splutter mustard seeds and methi seeds

Add the curry leaves

Now toss the tempering into the 7 Curry Kootu
