https://dadsthatcook.com/recipe/the-perfect-mai-tai/
Chef Thom shows Jason how to mix the perfect Mai Tai, possibly the most abused mixed drink out there.

Using the traditional white and dark rum, along with a few key additions like a Dash of Almond liqueur and Margarita mix, this Mai Tai will transport you to tropical climes. (Grass skirt not included!)

Mai Tai is probably one of the most abused drinks. Everybody has their own version of it. Some are really good, but a lot are really bad. Yeah. Two glasses of ice. Fill them all the way up. Okay.
Then, we're going to add the white rum. White rum. The white rum is the base. I'm going to free pour this. If you do it, and from a very simple technique, which is fill about a quarter of the way up the bottom of the glass, that'll be about the Right about there, that's good. perfect amount of alcohol regardless of what size of glass you use. Then, this is a secret little recipe. This is the almond liqueur that you want to use. Almond liqueur. It's almond liqueur. How much do you use of that? It's just a splash.
It's just that, just enough to get that flavor, right? Just a splash. Then, what I do is I thin mine out with a little margarita mix because with all the juices, it can be overly sweet, so we're just going to take and fill most of the way up. Nice.
About halfway up the margarita mix. We're going to add a little pineapple juice. A little pineapple. Just a splash of OJ.
For some color?
Just a little extra citrus. Take and mix these real quick together. We're going to mix them up. Yeah. Nice mix.
If you're familiar with the Mai Tai, you know the dark rum's floated on top. That's where it's at. Just want to float it right on top.
Look at that. That is mean looking.
Give it that classic Mai Tai look. Time to go to Hawaii.
A little cherry, pineapple and orange, and there you have it.
It doesn't require a straw, right? No, it doesn't, but you might want to mix it first. Why? If you want that shot of heavy rum on the top.
Isn't it good that way? Can be. I'm going to mix mine.
You're going to mix yours? You mix yours. I'll mix mine. Cheers, buddy. Thank you. Thank you. God, that's good.
Laying on a beach, the sun beating down on you.
Yeah, hot, you know? If you only had a grass skirt.
If I only had a grass skirt, but I don't unfortunately.
