The Best French Toast Casserole

Ingredients

Casserole:
1 loaf French bread challah or French country
8 large eggs
1 1/2 cups whole milk
1 cup heavy cream
1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1 cup berries optional, can be fresh or frozen, small pieces.

Topping:
1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
1/2 cup salted butter melted
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour spoon & leveled
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Optional toppings:
Fresh fruit
Maple Syrup
Powdered Sugar

Instructions

1 Preheat oven to 350 Fahrenheit.

2 Spray a 9x13 inch pan with nonstick spray. Slice, then cube the bread into 1-inch pieces. Spread bread into the prepared baking dish and set aside.

3 Whisk the rest of the casserole ingredients together including the eggs, milk, heavy cream, brown sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg until no lumps remain. Pour liquid ingredients over the bread. Make sure all pieces of the bread are saturated in the liquid mixture.

4 To make the topping, combine brown sugar, softened butter, flour, and cinnamon in a bowl. Mix well until all is combined. Texture should be similar to wet sand.

5 Add in desired fruit. like blueberries, raspberries or sliced strawberries and Push them into the casserole and sprinkle on topping. Bake in preheated oven for 45-55 minutes, or until golden brown on top.

Coffee Creamer Flavor Twist:

Since the casserole already has added flavors and sugars, use 2 1/2 cups of sweetened coffee creamer and 8 eggs. Whisk those together and pour over the cubed bread.
