The homeland of this extremely subtle and sofisticated sweet dish is a pretty good matter of debate with states like Maharashtra Punjab Gujarat Rajasthan etc..each claiming to have sown the first seeds of this dish on the Indian subcontinent.

However if this dig down to the story behind this recipe..we may be able to understand why this dish could have been harvested simultaneously in different states of India at a quiet similar era of time.

Herdsmen of the earlier days on their long journey used to hung the curd or yoghurt so that it became easier for carrying the food alongwith them. But for long journeys..to keep the curd palatable to taste..they used to add sugar or nuts or some fruits to it.and this method of eating curd could well possibly be the grandfather of this huge family tree of Shrikhand we see today.
