SAVOURY RINGS: CRUNCHY, SAVOURY, AND LASTING APPETIZER

Full recipe for SAVOURY RINGS:
Ingredients

For the dough:
250 g butter (at room temperature)
cup grape seed oil (or another fine liquid oil)
1/3 cup sugar
1 cup yogurt
tbsp apple cider vinegar
tbsp mahleb
tbsp baking powder
1 tbsp salt
4.5- 5 cups flour

For decoration:
1 egg
1 tsp olive oil
cup sesame seeds
1 tbsp black cumin (nigella) seeds

Directions

MAKING THE DOUGH
Prepare a large bowl for the dough
Pour tbsp of vinegar and cup of grape seed oil into the bowl
Add 1 cup of yogurt, 1/3 cup of sugar, 1 tbsp of salt, 250 g of softened butter, tbsp of mahleb, and tbsp of baking powder into the bowl
Thoroughly mix the ingredients to achieve a homogenous mixture
Then, gradually sieve the flour into the bowl
You can add first 3-4 cups of flour in at once, but the last cup of flour should be added to the mixture by observing the consistency of the dough
The dough should be soft and moldable
Use the last cup of flour to obtain this consistency
When the dough has reached its desired texture, avoid adding any more of the remaining flour
Once the dough is ready, prepare the cooking trays and the ingredients for decoration

SHAPING & DECORATION
Separate the yolk and the white of the egg and place them in different bowls
Lightly whisk the egg white and set aside
Drizzle 1 tsp of olive oil over the egg yolk and set aside
Place the sesame and black cumin (nigella) seeds into separate bowls

Prepare bite-sized rings from the dough
Simply roll a bit of dough into a stick and join both ends together to make a ring shape
Try to make them all same size and develop your own technique if mine is not practical for you
You can alter the size and thickness, but keep in mind; smaller and thinner cookies will be crunchier in texture!!
Once you form the cookies, coat half of them with egg white and then sesame seeds
Coat the other half of the cookies with egg yolk and sprinkle them with black cumin seeds
Place the cookies on the baking trays; making sure there is some room between them for the dough to rise

Heat the oven to 370 F or 180 C degree

BAKING
Put the baking trays into the heated oven and bake until they turn golden brown (or for 25-35 minutes based on the size of the cookies)
Once the savoury ring-shaped cookies are baked, take them out of the oven and rest them on the tray for 10-15 minutes to let them cool down slowly

SERVING
Savoury Rings have a salty taste and marvellous aroma with crunchy texture!
Sesame seeds and black cumin seeds give different kinds of satisfaction
