You might have tried a lot of Khichdis but this exclusive Sambhar Khichdi will surely be the top favourite when you try it. With the typical Sambhar ingredients along with dal and rice, this Khichdi is the perfect lunch option!

SAMBHAR KHICHDI

Ingredients

1 cup pigeon pea (tuvar dal), soaked and drained
1½ cups kolam rice, soaked and drained
1 cup pumpkin cubes
½ tsp turmeric powder
3 tbsps Tata Sampann Sambar Masala
2 drumsticks, cut into 2 inch pieces
14-16 madras onions, peeled
2 tsps tamarind pulp
Salt to taste
2 tbsps ghee
1 tsp mustard seeds
¼ tsp asafoetida
10-12 curry leaves
½ tsp fenugreek seeds
1-2 dried red chillies
Fried papadams

Method

1. Heat a non-stick pressure cooker, add pigeon pea, rice and pumpkin cubes,
2. Add turmeric powder, Tata Sampann Sambar Masala, and 5-6 cups water and mix well.
3. Cook till 2 whistles are released and allow the pressure to be released completely.
4. Add sufficient water to adjust the consistency and place it back on heat. Stir the mixture well and add drumsticks and mix well.
5. Roughly slice madras onions and set aside.
6. Add tamarind pulp and mix well. Add salt and mix well.
7. Heat ghee in a non-stick pan, add mustard seeds, asafoetida, and curry leaves and let the seeds splutter.
8. Add Break and add dried red chillies, and a pinch of mustard seeds, Sauté till fragrant.
9. Add the sliced onion and mix well. Sauté till golden brown.
10. Add the remaining Tata Sampann Sambhar Masala and switch the heat off. Mix well and add this to the sambhar khichdi, mix till well combined.
11. Transfer into a serving bowl, garnish with papadams and serve hot.
