Sabudana Khichdi recipe - How to make sago khichdi - Instant sabudana khichdi recipe, | Nisha Madhulika

Sabudana khichdi can be prepared instantly at home. Making sago khichdi is really easy and is good recipe for fasting.

Ingredients

Sabudana – 1 cup (150 grams)
Peanuts – 1 tbsp (roasted)
Cumin seeds - ½ tsp
Asafoetida – 1 pinch
Green chilies – 1 to 2 (finely chopped)
Ginger baton – 1 inch (grated)
Paneer – 70 to 75 grams
Salt - ¾ tsp or to taste
Green coriander – 1 tbsp (finely chopped)
Tomato – 1 (finely chopped)
Oil – to make khichdi

Directions

Getting ready:

1. Soak the sago pearls for 8 hours in water. Later, drain out the excess water. Coarsely grind the peanuts in mortar grinder. Cut the paneer into small chunks.

Making:

2. Pour 1 tbsp of oil in preheated wok. When the oil gets heated, add cumin seeds and asafoetida in the wok. As the seeds starts spluttering, add green chilies and ginger in the wok and saute the spices for a while. Then add tomato to the spices and stir fry the masala. As the tomato become soft, add the sago pearls and salt to the masala and mix well.

3. Pour 2 tbsp of water in the wok, cover and cook the khichdi for 5 to 6 minutes on low flame. Later, stir the khichdi and add 1 to 2 tbsp of water if required. Again cover and cook for 4 to 5 minutes on low flame.

4. Meanwhile, heat a pan with 2 to 3 tsp of oil. When the oil gets heated, put the paneer in the pan and fry them until they become golden brown from all the sides. Then drain them out in a bowl. Now put the peanuts in the pan and fry them a little to make them crunchy. After a while, transfer them in the bowl.

5. Sabudana will get cooked aptly by this time. Add roasted paneer and peanuts in the khichdi and mix well. Sabudana khichdi is ready, turn off the flame and transfer in a bowl.

Serving:

6. Serve these scrumptious and lip-smacking sabudana khichdi piping hot.

Suggestion

You can add green peas, capsicum, carrot, potatoes or any sabzi in the khichdi but don't add green peas if you are preparing the khichdi for fast. Stir fry the veggies before adding in khichdi.



Sabudana khichdi is one of the most widely preferred and perfect food for Indian fasting. Sago pearls khichdi is prepared with sabudana, potatoes and flavored with few spices.

Potatoes – 2 medium sized (boiled)
Ghee or refined oil – 2-3 tsp
Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
Turmeric powder – less than ¼ tsp
Green chilly – 1-2 (finely chopped)
Black peppercorns – 7-8 (coarsely ground)
Peanuts – ½ cup (roasted and peeled)
Sendha salt – 1 tsp
Green coriander – 2-3 tbsp (finely chopped)
Lemon – 1 small size

Directions

Getting ready:

1.Soak the sago pearls for 5 to 6 hours in water. Later, drain out the excess water. Peel and chop the boiled potatoes.

Making:

2.For making khichdi, heat some ghee in a wok. When the ghee is rightly hot, add cumin seeds to it. After the seeds crackle, add turmeric powder, green chilly, black pepper, peanuts to it and saute for a while.

3.Then add finely chopped potatoes and mix it really well. Further mix sago pearls and sendha salt and stir well until everything mixes together. Cover and cook the khichdi for 7 to 8 minutes on low flame. Stir after every 2 to 3 minutes.

4.Mix green coriander and lemon juice in the khichdi, turn off the flame and transfer it to a serving bowl.

Serving:

5.Garnish this lip-smacking sago pearl khichdi with green coriander and serve it steaming hot.

Suggestions

If you are not making this khichdi for fasting then use normal plain salt instead of sendha salt. And also you can add some finely chopped green chilies, red chilly or capsicum so on to the khichdi.
