Rosh Hashanah & Yom Kippur "Jewish Foods" (what I'm buying in advance and how I prep)

The high holidays are fast approaching! This week I'm stocking my fridge, freezer and pantry with the main ingredients for my favorite Jewish Foods and kosher-style recipes, pointing out what you can make-ahead, plus an honest tip I employ for when I need food for a crowd fast and don't have the time to cook (I bet you know this one, but I'm giving you permission to just make the call!).

I also prepared for next month by pulling out my Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur children's books plus a book of Poetry for the Jewish Holidays that I love to have out this time of year (PJ Library books and others). Follow me as I tour you through my kitchen goodies, and happy holidays to you and your family!

Recipes:

My noodle kugel is a slight modification of this recipe, where I add a bit more cinnamon, 1 cup golden raisins and dot my cornflake topping with butter before baking:

My Beef Brisket Recipe:
3-6 lbs Beef brisket
1-2 packets Lipton Onion Soup Mix
1-2 sweet white or yellow onions, peeled and sliced
water
aluminum foil to wrap (I criss cross two sheets to form a nice packet for my brisket within a baking dish)
-Prehead oven to 350
-pat dry brisket and place atop foil sheets, fat side up in a baking dish
-sprinkle with soup mix and cover top of brisket with a generous layer of onions
-pour a cup or so of water around the brisket before sealing up the foil packet
-bake for 3-5 hours adding a little water to the casserole dish if you feel it needs it
-unwrap brisket and allow to rest
-carve meat across the grain in thin strips
-serve with hot prepared horseradish
