I took a trip to Nainativu Islan in the northern Jaffna area of Sri Lanka. The small island is one of the most important religious sites to visit in Sri Lanka, for both Buddhists and Hindus.

There are two main temples, the Sri Lanka Buddhist Nagadeepa Purana Viharaya, and the Tamil Hindu Sri Naga Pooshani Amman Kovil.

The entertaining bus ride from Jaffna town took about 1 hour and then we had to board a 15 minute (rather uncomfortable) ferry to get to Nainativu Island.

Taking a day trip to Nainativu Island is a great attraction and thing to do if you are visiting Jaffna, Sri Lanka!

Here's a little more information about the Nainativu Island Pilgrimage:

1. Take any local bus heading to Nagadeepa (Nagdipa) from Jaffna - 50 LKR ($0.44)

2. Take the ferry to Nainativu Island at the cost of 30 LRK ($0.26)

3. Take the ferry back to mainland and the same bus back to Jaffna town - double the cost of the ticket - about $1.40

Hope you have a great time visiting Nainativu Island in Jaffna, Sri Lanka.
