Pepper Mutton Spicy Mutton Curry Sanjeev Kapoor Khazana

Pepper Mutton Curry is a popular dish in India and other South Asian countries. It is a spicy and flavorful dish made with mutton, a variety of spices and black pepper. The dish typically starts by browning onions, ginger and garlic, then adding the mutton, and finally adding a blend of spices such as cumin, coriander, turmeric and black pepper. PEPPER MUTTON

Ingredients

750 gams mutton, cut into 2 inch pieces on bone
10-15 black peppercorns
1 tsps crushed black peppercorns
Salt to taste
tsp turmeric powder
1 tbsps ginger-garlic paste
3-4 green chillies
4 tbsps oil
1 tsps cumin seeds
3 tsps chopped ginger
1 tbsps chopped garlic
3 medium onions, chopped
1 cups fresh tomato puree
1 tsps red chilli powder
1 tsps coriander powder
1 tsps cumin powder
2 tsps meat masala
cup fried onions
3 tbsps chopped fresh coriander leaves + to sprinkle
Paranthas for serving

Method

1. Heat a pressure cooker. Add mutton, salt, turmeric powder, ginger-garlic paste, green chillies, black peppercorns, 1 tbsps oil and mix well.
2. Add 2 cups water and mix well. Cover with the lid and cook till the pressure is released 4-5 times.
3. Open the cooker once the pressure settles completely.
4. Heat remaining oil in a nonstick kadai. Add cumin seeds and once they start to change the colour, add ginger, garlic and saut for a minute.
5. Add onions and saut till golden brown.
6. Add tomato puree, salt and mix well. Cover and cook till fat separates.
7. Add red chilli powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, meat masala, crushed black peppercorns and mix well.
8. Add 1 cups water and mix well. Cover and cook for 4-5 minutes on medium heat. Add fried onions and mix.
9. Add cooked mutton, coriander leaves and mix well.
10. Transfer into a serving bowl. Sprinkle coriander leaves and serve hot with paranthas.
