Moong dal cooked in spicy onion tomato masala.MOONG DAL TADKAIngredients1 cup split skinless green gram ( dhuli moong dal), soaked overnight and drained 2 tablespoons oil ½ teaspoon cumin seeds7-8 curry leaves2 dried red chillies ½ teaspoon turmeric¼ teaspoon asafeotida1 tablespoon coriander powder1 teaspoon garam masala powder 1 medium onion, finely chopped1 tablespoon crushed garlic1 tablespoon finely chopped ginger1 teaspoon lemon juice1 medium tomato, finely chopped 1 teaspoon cumin powder Salt to taste Finely chopped fresh coriander leaves for garnishingMethod1. Boil 3 cups water in a non-stick pan, add green gram and cook till softens.2. Heat oil in another non-stick pan, add cumin seeds, curry leaves, dried red chillies, turmeric powder, asafeotida, some coriander powder, garam masala powder and sauté for a minute. 3. Add onion, garlic, ginger and sauté till golden brown. 4. Add lemon juice and tomato and sauté till soft. 5. Add green gram alongwith boiling water and mix well. Cook for 4-5 minutes.6. Add cumin powder, coriander powder and salt and mix well. 7. Transfer into a bowl, garnish with coriander leaves and sprinkle cumin powder and serve hot.
