Moong Dal Tadka | Sanjeev Kapoor Khazana

Moong dal cooked in spicy onion tomato masala.

MOONG DAL TADKA

Ingredients

1 cup split skinless green gram ( dhuli moong dal), soaked overnight and drained
2 tablespoons oil
½ teaspoon cumin seeds
7-8 curry leaves
2 dried red chillies
½ teaspoon turmeric
¼ teaspoon asafeotida
1 tablespoon coriander powder
1 teaspoon garam masala powder
1 medium onion, finely chopped
1 tablespoon crushed garlic
1 tablespoon finely chopped ginger
1 teaspoon lemon juice
1 medium tomato, finely chopped
1 teaspoon cumin powder
Salt to taste
Finely chopped fresh coriander leaves for garnishing

Method

1. Boil 3 cups water in a non-stick pan, add green gram and cook till softens.
2. Heat oil in another non-stick pan, add cumin seeds, curry leaves, dried red chillies, turmeric powder, asafeotida, some coriander powder, garam masala powder and sauté for a minute.
3. Add onion, garlic, ginger and sauté till golden brown.
4. Add lemon juice and tomato and sauté till soft.
5. Add green gram alongwith boiling water and mix well. Cook for 4-5 minutes.
6. Add cumin powder, coriander powder and salt and mix well.
7. Transfer into a bowl, garnish with coriander leaves and sprinkle cumin powder and serve hot.
