HOW TO MAKE SAMBAR WITHOUT SAMBAR POWDER | SAMBAR RECIPE | GRANNY'S SAMBAR RECIPE | Indian Mom's Kitchen

Once you taste this Sambar, you will never ever make sambar with readymade sambar powder. This sambar recipe is very easy to make and the aroma and taste is really superb. This is how sambhar used to be prepared in the good old days. Even today in the villages, this is how sambar is prepared with freshly ground spices. Enjoy this traditional sambhar with rice, idli, dosa or vada.

Ingredients in the order of instructions:
Red Pumpkin
White Pumpkin
1 Onion
1 Drum Stick
4-5 Bhindi/Okra
2 Tomatoes
3 Green chillies
Lemon sized ball of Tamarind

FOR SAMBAR MASALA
1 tbsp Rice
1 tbsp Chana Dal
Few Curry leaves
1 tsp Cumin/Jeera
1/2 tsp Methi/Fenugreek seeds
1 tsp Red Chilli powder
1&1/2 tsp Coriander powder
1 tsp Kashmiri Chilli powder
1/2 tsp Hing/Asafoetida

3/4 cup Tuvar Dal
Water as required
1/2 tsp Turmeric/Haldi powder
1/4 Hing/Asafoetida
Salt to taste

Cut Vegetables
Water as required
Salt to taste
1/2 tsp Haldi/Turmeric powder

1 tbsp Oil
Cut Bhindi/Okra

A few Curry leaves/Kadipatta
Coriander leaves
1 tbsp Gud/Jaggery

FOR TADKA/TEMPERING
2 tbsp Oil
1/2 tsp Mustard/Rai seeds
1/4 tsp Methi/Fenugreek seeds
1/2 tsp Cumin/Jeera
4 Dry Red Chillies
Few Curry leaves/Kadipatta
