How to make Ribbon Pakoda at home

Ingredients:

Besan/gram flour - 3 cups

Rice flour (store bought) - 1 ½ cups

Kashmiri Chilli powder - 1 tsp

Asafoetida - ¼ tsp

Salt to taste

Butter at room temperature - few tsps

Oil to deep fry

Method:

Add besan, rice flour, kashmiri chilli powder, asafoetida and salt to bowl and toss well - the ready mix for the Ribbon Pakoda is ready

Now, grease the Tengozhal press/murukku press and add the Ribbon Pakoda attachment

Meanwhile heat oil for frying

Now, scoop some ready mix and blend some butter all over to resemble bread crumbs

Then, sprinkle water little by little and make a dough that is not very soft or not very hard

Test the oil - when you add a small bit of dough into the oil, it should come up instantly

Fill the press with the dough and squeeze out ribbons into the hot oil

Do not disturb while the Ribbon Pakoda is sizzling

Once the sizzling sound subsides a bit, turn around the Ribbon Pakoda

Adjust the flame so that the oil is not too hot now - maintain the heat by adjusting, every now and then

Remember to wait for the oil to heat again once a batch is ready

Enjoy the crunchy goodness of Ribbon Pakodas this Diwali
