How to make Apple Rasam/#TomatoRasam#TomatoRasamRecipe | Sujan Fun Kitchen

Tomato Rasam was part of the royal cuisine of Tamil Nadu for the Chinese President Xi Jinping. That inspired thoughts about the benefits of Rasam.

Rasam is rich in antioxidants due to the presence of tamarind and the Rasam varieties are amazing! Be it Tomato Rasam which combines Vitamin C making it an all-time favourite. Lemon Rasam to accompany a meal with fried Papad or Vadam, Milagu Rasam (Mulligatawny Rasam) to suit the palate of cold-afflicted, irritated person, Pineapple Rasam in any celebration meal - the tangy and rich rasam will be on par with the other exotic dishes of the royal cuisine. Kandathippili Rasam for a person with body pain due to fever, spicy Garlic Rasam can be trusted to wake your senses and leave you feeling refreshed.and not to forget the Paruppu rasam which is prepared regularly during the working week, it being a combo of lentils, tomatoes and tamarind, thus becoming a complete meal when mixed with rice.

Ingredients:

Tomato - 1 large or 2 medium

Green apple - 1 medium

Tamarind  - small lemon size

Rasam powder - 1 tsp

Salt - to taste

Asafoetida -  ½ tsp

Ghee/oil - 1 tsp

Mustard seeds - 1 tsp

Jeera/cumin seeds - 1 tsp

Curry leaves - as required

Coriander leaves - as required

Method:


Chop tomatoes and green apple; also chop coriander

Grind tomatoes and green apple to a paste - keep aside

Soak tamarind in hot water for some time - crush and strain out the tamarind water

Add the tamarind water to a pan - into it add salt and rasam powder

Allow everything to come to a boil

Now add the tomato apple paste and stir everything together

Allow everything to boil together

Finally add some coriander leaves and asafoetida

In a small pan, add ghee/oil - heat

Splutter mustard seed and jeera

Serve Tomato and Apple Rasam with a steaming bowl of rice and some vegetables like Okra/Bhindi
