Goan Mackerel Curry | Sanjeev Kapoor Khazana

Mackerel fish pieces cooked in spicy masala gravy.

GOAN MACKEREL CURRY

Ingredients

3 mackerel fish, cut into halves
½ teaspoon turmeric powder
Salt to taste
1 tablespoon vinegar
½ inch cinnamon
1 tablespoon cumin seeds
4-5 black peppercorns
3-4 cloves
3-4 dried red chillies
1 inch ginger
5-6 garlic cloves
1 tablespoon oil
6-7 curry leaves
1 medium onion, chopped
Pinch of sugar

Method

1. Take fish in a bowl. Add turmeric powder and salt, mix well and
set aside.
2. Grind together vinegar, cinnamon, cumin seeds, peppercorns,
cloves, red chillies, ginger and garlic along with some water into
a fine paste.
3. Heat oil in a non-stick pan. Add curry leaves and onion, mix and
sauté till onion turns golden.
4. Add the prepared paste, mix and sauté till fragrant. Add 1 cup
water, mix and bring to boil.
5. Add fish, mix lightly and cook on low heat for 5 minutes. Add
sugar, mix and cook for a minute.
6. Serve hot.

Preparation Time: 5-7 minutes
Cooking Time: 12-15 minutes
