A simple chai-time snack which everyone will love. Sponge gourd cut into small pieces, dipped into gram flour batter and deep-fried to perfection!

GHOSALYACHI BHAJI

Ingredients

250 grams sponge gourd (ghosal/toorai)
1½ cups gram flour (besan)
¼ tsp red chilli powder
¼ tsp turmeric powder
Salt to taste
2 tbsps hot oil + for deep frying

Method

1. Trim the head of ghosalya and cut them into roundels.
2. Take gram flour in a large bowl, add red chilli powder, turmeric powder, salt and ½ cup water and mix to form a smooth batter of coating consistency.
3. Add 2 tbsps hot oil, mix and add the pointed gourd roundels.
4. Heat sufficient oil in a kadai, coat each roundel with the batter and slide into the hot oil. Deep fry till golden brown and crisp. Drain on absorbent paper.
5. Arrange ghosalyachi bhaji on a serving plate and serve hot.
