Basbousa (Suji Cake) Egyptian Cake
Basbousa is an Egyptian cake drizzled with syrup. It is made with semolina (suji) and comes out really tasty. I love this cake as it is so easy to make and a wholesome dessert for the entire family. Try this out and I am sure you would love it!
Ingredients
cup milk
6 table spoons curd
cup suji ( semolina)
t;ea spoon cardamom powder
cup powdered sugar
6 Table spoons maida
tea spoon baking soda
1 tea spoon baking powder
Salt to taste
cup honey
2 table spoons rose water
1 table spoon lemon juice
1 table spoon Orange Blossom water
cup honey
1 table spoon lemon juice
Rose petals & chopped pistachios for garnishing
6 table spoons vegetable oil
A few strands of saffron soaked in hot water
Method
Take cup milk
Add 6 table spoons of curd
6 table spoons vegetable oil
Add cup suji
tea spoon cardamom powder
cup powdered sugar
Mix well
Keep the mixture aside for 10 to 15 minutes for the suji to get soaked well
Take 6 table spoons maida
tea spoon baking soda
1 tea spoon baking powder
Salt to taste and mix well
spread oil all around a cake tin
Damp and crumple a parchment paper and put it in the tin
Mix the suji mixture with dry ingredients and mix well
Pour the mixture in the cake tin
Bake in a pre heated oven @ 180 degrees for 30 to 35 minutes
For the honey drizzle
In a bowl take cup honey , 2 table spoons rose water ,1 table spoon Orange Blossom water, 1 table spoon lemon juice and Saffron water and mix well
Once the cake is baked make holes on the cake for the honey drizzle to go inside properly
Pour the honey drizzle on the cake
Garnish with rose petals and pistachios
