Chicken Dhansak Curry Recipe (Lentils and chicken Recipe) | Eat East Indian

Ingredients and Method:
1/2 cup Chana Dal ( Split chickpea Lentil)
1/2 cup Urad Dal ( yellow Lentil)
Small portion of Tamarin Pulp ( Golf ball size)
1/2 kg chicken
1/2 tsp cumin seeds
1/4 tsp fenugreek seeds
1 tsp mustard seeds
small piece of cinnamon
10-12 Black peppercorns
1 bay leaf
4-5 black cloves
1 tsp coriander and fennel seeds
10-12 Curry leaves
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp turmeric
1 tbsp ginger garlic paste
2-3 tbsp oil
1 small chopped onion
( again 1 tsp salt to fry onions, 1/2 tsp red chilli pwd)
More spices like Salt/Red chill pwd and garam masala/curry powder can be added to the dish to adjust the seasoning)
2-3 cups of water

Method:
Soak lentils in water for atleast 30 mins or overnight.
Dry roast spices and then make a paste out of them by grinding them with water
Marinade chicken with ginger garlic paste, salt, turmeric and dhansak paste for 30 mins to an hr or overnight.
Also 10 mins prior to cooking, soak tamarind in water to remove the pulp and get tamarind juice.
In hot oil, fry onions with red chilli pwd and salt. Add chicken. Fry for 5 mins. Add lentils, tamarind juice. Add water, Adjust seasoning and then cover the cooker and cook for 10-15 mins ( 4-5 whistles)
Once cooker has cool down, open it and garnish your curry. Best served with Naan or Rice.
