Chana Dal Samosa | Sanjeev Kapoor Khazana

Scrumptious samosas made using the healthy and delicious Chana Dal.

CHANA DAL SAMOSA

Ingredients

½ cup split bengal gram (chana dal), soaked
Samosa patti as required
1 tbsp oil + for deep frying
1 tsp cumin seeds
A pinch of asafoetida
1 medium onion, chopped
1 tsp ginger-green chilli paste
¼ tsp turmeric powder
½ tsp red chilli powder
½ tsp coriander powder
1½ tbsps freshly chopped coriander leaves
1 tbsp lemon juice
Salt to taste
Refined flour slurry as required
Green chutney to serve

Method

1. Heat oil in a non-stick kadai, add cumin seeds and let the colour change. Add asafoetida and onion, sauté and cook till golden brown.
2. Add 1 tsp ginger-green chilli paste, sauté well. Add chana dal and mix well.
3. Add turmeric powder, red chilli powder, coriander powder, mix well and cook for 1-2 minutes.
4. Add 1 cup water, mix well. Cover and cook till chana dal is cooked completely. Add chopped coriander, lemon juice, and salt. Mix well and take it off the heat and allow to cool slightly.
5. Place the mixture on one end of the samosa patti and fold it in triangular shape. Seal the edges properly with the help of refined flour slurry.
6. Heat sufficient oil in another non-stick kadai, deep fry the prepared samosa till golden brown and crisp. Drain on an absorbent paper.
7. Serve hot with green chutney.
