Caramelised Onion Bread

CARAMELISED ONION BREAD

PREP TIME: 1 HOUR
BAKE TIME: 35 MINUTES
SERVES: 4-6

INGREDIENTS
3 large Onions , sliced
50g Butter
2 tbsps vegetable oil
2 1/2 cups Hard flour
100g Margarine
1 tbsp active Yeast
1/2 cup Sugar
1 tbsp Ground nutmeg
1/2 tsp Salt
1 egg, for egg wash

DIRECTION
. Add the butter knob into a saucepan over medium heat, add vegetable oil, sliced onions, stir until caramelised for 15-20 minutes. Take off heat and let cool off completely.
. Pour the sugar and yeast into warm water, stir and set aside.
. Mix the flour with salt, ground nutmeg then rub in the margarine.
. Add the caramelised onions, mix in, then add water and knead until completely mixed in.
. Knead on a flat surface until smooth then cut into pieces and knead into small balls.
. Place in a greased baking dish, cover and leave to rise for 45 minutes.
. Place in a pre- heated oven and bake at 180c for 30 minutes, take out , eggwash and place back in the oven to bake for 5 minutes.
. Caramelised onions bread ready to serve.
