Cabbage Chana Dal | Simple Indian Recipe | Sanjeev Kapoor Khazana

CABBAGE CHANA DAL

Ingredients

250 grams cabbage, shredded
½ cup Bengal gram (chana dal), soaked
2-3 tablespoons oil
½ teaspoon mustard seeds
1 teaspoon cumin seeds
A pinch of asafoetida
6-8 curry leaves
¼ teaspoon turmeric powder
1 teaspoon red chilli powder
2 teaspoons coriander-cumin powder
Salt to taste
½ teaspoon sugar
2 tablespoons scraped fresh coconut

Method

1. Heat oil in a non-stick pan and add mustard seeds. Once they
start to splutter, add cumin seeds. When cumin seeds change
colour, add asafoetida and curry leaves and sauté for a few
seconds.
2. Add split Bengal gram and sauté for two to three minutes.
3. Add turmeric powder, red chilli powder and coriander-cumin
powder and mix well.
4. Add cabbage and mix well. Reduce heat and cook for two to
three minutes.
5. Add salt and sugar and mix well. Cover and cook till both
cabbage and Bengal gram are completely cooked.
6. Transfer into a serving bowl, garnish with coconut and serve
hot.
